• My Dream Deadline

Fans of the New Orleans Pelicans have to be the happiest people on Earth.  We all know the details, but they basically gave up nothing for the best center in the NBA.  Even if (for some reason) it doesn’t they could still land the first pick in the draft because of the pick protection.  This is the dream scenario for Pelican fans.  That got me thinking about my dream trade deadline scenario for the 76ers.  What is the one move that could be made to make this trade deadline as good as possible for the Sixers and their fans?  It would be using assets to acquire a superstar, and I do not see why it couldn’t happen.

There are a couple of big name players that have be thrown into the trade rumor mill, and none of them I would like more than Paul George.  Paul Geroge is the perfect fit for the 76ers at the 3.  He is a great two-way player that can shoot and make plays as well.  It gives you the opportunity to start Simmons next to him and then play him next to Dario Saric or Joel Embiid.  His versatility as a forward is really only matched by Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, and Giannis Antetokounmpo .  In this scenario, you would have to give up a lot because this would be the trade to kickstart a Pacers rebuild, but the Sixers have a lot to give up.

I went to the all-encompassing ESPN trade machine to test out some trades, and here is the one I think would be successful.

Nerlens Noel or Jahlil Okafor  (Rumors about Indiana’s interest have floated around)

LA’s top 3 protected first rounder

    Sacramento 2019 First rounder

Look, even if you have to throw in your 2017 first rounder, Paul George is worth it.  He is only 26 years old, he is shooting the highest percentage of his career from the floor, and is averaging the second-most points of his career.  On top of that, he is still under contract for two and a half more seasons.  And if the Pacers are serious about a rebuild, they are getting a treasure chest of assets.  The Sacramento Kings’ 2019 unprotected first round pick is going to be just as valuable as the Brooklyn Nets’ pick this season.  They also get a Lakers pick that will either convey this year in a loaded draft or next year and be a high pick.  I am personally of the belief that the Paul George era in Indiana has run its course, and Bryan Colangelo has too many valuable assets to just use them on draft picks.  You already have one bonafide stud in Joel Embiid and I think another one in Ben Simmons.  Now get a third star in here that has playoff experience under his belt.

The time is now for the 76ers to make that next step.  They are on the precipice of putting together something really special, and that could start in two days at the deadline.  At the very least, let’s just get Jahlil Okafor out of here.  For his sake and for ours.
